Rapunzel lanterns

After building Rapunzel's tower from Tangled we wanted to recreate the lanterns flying in the sky. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

  • Hi Michael, thanks for posting on the forum.  How many flying lanterns were you thinking?  And do you have a photo of your setup you could post?  I assume you don't want the lanterns to actually be flying :-) but let me know if I'm misunderstanding.

Depending on how high you want them to sit above the base, it might be possible to do something custom that would look really nice.  If you can post a photo of how you might build the lanterns, and also some indication of where you'd want to position them above what you've built, that would help.

    Thanks again for your post!

  • Here is our setup with Rapunzel's tower next to the Disney Castle. As you can see there is quite a lot of empty space above Rapunzel's tower and to the left of the castle and we thought it would be neat to be able to put some of Rapunzel's lanterns in there to fill the space. They could either be suspended from the shelf above or sitting on the bottom shelf. Whatever you guys think could work

  • Michael Thomas very cool, thanks for the photo!  That definitely helps.  I was thinking if you made the lanterns out of LEGO bricks somehow, maybe they could be attached to these clear elements: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=99784#T=C.  This is the same way LEGO suspended ghosts from the Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ set.  You could attach the lanterns to these parts, then snap the parts onto the backs of the castle and to the tower at different heights, and then you could put our warm white Pico LEDs inside each lantern, and the whole thing would look really cool at night.  For added effect, you could even add a flickering lighting effect board to make the lanterns flicker.

Looking at the clear element above, do you think it would be possible to build lanterns and attach them to these, then attach the parts to the two buildings at different heights?

I ordered the mega kit for the Disney castle.  When i order the pico leds for the lanterns do I still need to order a separate flickering lighting effect board for the lanterns or can they be hooked up to the disney castle kit and have the flickering effect?

  • Michael Thomas Hi Michael, you can use the effect controller included with the Disney Castle to flicker the LEDs in the lanterns, though you'll need some extra adapters and extension cables to hook everything up.  I made a note on your order to contact you again before shipping your kit-- at that time we'll be able to help with more specific recommendations.
